Video & Audio Sync issues?
Hello Everyone,
I have been noticing lately that my Reply seems to nock my Video and Audio out of sync, the video is about 6 seconds behind. I assure you that my cables are wires are hooked up correctly and I am outputting from the replay for audio and video. I found this happening this evening on the WB's Summerland and often happens on some of the Fox network prime time shows. Any ideas or fixes to this problem? Thanks, Chris |
In addition I am running a ReplayTV 5040 with the IVS and Commercial Skip.

Hey,
LoL... I have a Tivo as well. I am signed up to both groups and didn't realize I was posting in the TiVo one :-) Thanks, Chris P.S. Your Correct, Tivo has never had that problem. My DirecTV Tivo does this all the time and I have to go back and forth a couple of times on replay for it to correct itself. I like my Tivo, but it's not perfect. Among the things I find irritating: 1) Re-sorts on seasons passes take forever and basically hang the system until it's finished. Linux is suppose to be multitasking, why can't it do this type of housekeeping in background. 2) It screwed up my Nip/Tuck seasons pass. Just suddenly stopped working. Knowing the season's premier was last night I did a name search and added a season's pass. This somehow forced a refresh on the original seasons pass so now it showed two copies to be recorded in the to do list. I deleted both of them and went back and added back just one it cleared up, but the whole process took about 20 minutes to correct. (see complaint #1). Is it necessary to periodically delete and add back season's passes? 3) When I am surfing channels on tuner #2 with a show buffering on tuner #1 (so I can go back and commercial skip), if I cross the channel that is on tuner #1 the Tivo switches me to that tuner and kills the buffered stream when I next press the channel button. If I am watching on tuner #2 it should stay on that tuner and not disturb what is going on with the first tuner. 4) There should be a way to roll between the tuners and a playback stream so I can pause a movie playback to watch the evening news, and then simply go back to the movie without having to go into list, page to the movie, select, play, resume playing. What I would envision would be like the live TV button: Tuner 1| Tuner 2| Current playback Stream | Tuner 1.... This would be a good use for that window button on the remote. 5) Pay Per Views in the Suggestion list appears to be a marketing ploy, because the movies it suggests are not the type I usually watch. 6) There does not appear to be a way of eliminating channels. I would like to eliminate all the home shopping channels, Spanish language channels, and similar channels that I have no interest in, along with channels that I just don't receive (HBO). When changing channels, I currently have to go through a lot of dead pages, and channels that I have no interest in. 7) Networking for DirecTV Tivo. Enough said. Jeff |

Two hits on the pause button fixes it. 2) It screwed up my Nip/Tuck seasons pass. Just suddenly stopped working. Knowing the season's premier was last night I did a name search and added a season's pass. This somehow forced a refresh on the original seasons pass so now it showed two copies to be recorded in the to do list. I deleted both of When "West Wing" had some naming difficulties, didn't show the one they said they were going to show (But Tivo thought they did) and then showed the right one the following week (which Tivo thought had just been recorded), I did some juggling, and I actually did get two shows taped simultaneously on the two tuners. 4) There should be a way to roll between the tuners and a playback stream so I like that one. It ties into my major gripe: If I get the popup that says Tivo has to change the channel, I have to cancel an upcoming recording, or let it change the channel. It should let me know what is blocking the other tuner from changing. 6) There does not appear to be a way of eliminating channels. I would like That one is there. I have to clean it up occasionally as they add more NFL, or MSL, or ESPN, etc, but my list is only the channels I want. Messages and Setup - My Preferences - Customize Channels - Channels You Receive. 7) Networking for DirecTV Tivo. Enough said. I don't know what I'd do with it, but I'd like to have it. -- --- Clarence A Dold - Hidden Valley (Lake County) CA USA 38.8-122.5 |

You need to keep aware of which channels are being saved in each buffer while maintaining buffers for both. You can "surf" in the program guide and avoid changing channels with the channel Up/Dn button. 4) Press LiveTV to leave playback of a saved program... Press gray pad left arrow to go back to Now Playing list, and press Play. One key press to Live TV, then two key presses to resume viewing a saved program. 5) I have never seen a PPV in Suggestions because I unselected all PPV channels in the Channels You Receive list. Suggestions are picked from this set. 6) Unselect the channels you never watch in Channels You Receive. Messages & Setup - My Preferences - Customize Channels (Uncheck all channels, then select each individually as there are probably fewer you want than those you don't want) After picking the channels you want to view in Channels You Receive, Check All channels in Favorites and choose Favorites on the Program Guide configuration menu. If you do this you won't see new channels which are automatically added to Channels You Receive. The shopping channels that are newly added on a daily basis will not appear in Favorites. |

My DirecTV Tivo does this all the time and I have to go back and
forth a couple of times on replay for it to correct itself. I find the audio starts to "stutter" now and then (not often). Pressing pause and then resuming immediately re-syncs it. I've never had to go "back and forth". 1) Re-sorts on seasons passes take forever and basically hang the system until it's finished. Linux is suppose to be multitasking, why can't it do this type of housekeeping in background. It's potentially a lot of data it has to sift through. But I'm with you, it'd be nice if this weren't soooooo damned slow. 2) It screwed up my Nip/Tuck seasons pass. Just suddenly stopped working. How much of this is Fox's fault for screwing around with their listing in the guide? Is it necessary to periodically delete and add back season's passes? None that I've used required this. But then again, I'm not watching programs on networks that insist on ****ing around with the info. NBC's jerking around with the start/stop times, Fox with the station label, etc. Yes, I've seen this as well. But consider that it's going to be sort of difficult for the Tivo to untangle what you're trying to do. It won't let you record the same channel on both tuners. And unless you tell it to record a program it can't "know" that you really want it to keep the buffer. If you want something recorded, press the Record button; that's why it's there. Otherwise some sort of "smarter" buffers would be a nice thing. 4) There should be a way to roll between the tuners and a playback stream so I can pause a movie playback to watch the evening news, and then simply go back to the movie without having to go into list, page to the movie, select, play, resume playing. I'll second that request. There's not a 'one key' way to do this (at least not on a DirecTivo). 5) Pay Per Views in the Suggestion list appears to be a marketing ploy, because the movies it suggests are not the type I usually watch. Well, yeah, duh! It's all about advertising and they're making the pitch! The suggestions get dumped should space be needed. Otherwise you're free to ignore them or turn off recording them completely. But imagine how much the paranoia freaks would whine if the Tivo really got smart enough to do what you're asking. Especially if it knew you tended to pause, rewind, slow-mo advance when a pair of titties come across the screen. It'd merrily start making Suggestions of more suggestive stuff (yeah, ow, bad pun). This you CAN do. Hit the Info button and change it to show only "Channels you receive" and then take out the ones you don't want though the setup screens (forget which ones). But beware, some channels "come and go" and will mysteriously reappear. I find this incredibly annoying. When I delete a given channel I damn well want it to STAY deleted. Not keep coming back up when the take it out of the guide for a day and return it. I realize this would make it harder for me to discover legitimately new channels. Send me a text message with a list of them and perhaps ask if I want them added. STOP forcing them on me. 7) Networking for DirecTV Tivo. Enough said. Version 4.0 and HMO.... WHEN will we get them on DirecTivo units! We've waited LONG ENOUGH. -Bill Kearney |
