just signed up for DirecTivo - no mention of monthly fee?
 

Are DirecTV being sneaky or what? It cost me $120 for the unit and
delivery, but nowhere on the web site did it say a thing about monthly
fee.

It did say there was a minimum package that I had to be subscribed to.

Any thoughts?

The Tivo fee from DirecTV is $5 per month, unless you go with their top
package (I think it's Total Choice Premier, but not sure), and in that case
it's waived.

It probably is a bit sneaky but Tivo isn't a necessesity.

The $4.99 Tivo looks fairly clear there, unless you get the Premier
package, where Tivo is included.

Since the Directivo has two tuners, it's like two TVs, so you could
consider the $4.99 covers both the second TV and the TiVo service.

That's a good thought, but the $4.99 Tivo charge covers all the DirecTivos
that you have in the house. (It has been said there is a max of 8, but
that isn't mentioned on this page.)

You would pay $4.99 to activate Tivo service for all the DirecTivos on
your account. You would pay $4.99 for every "access device", above the
first one. The number of TVs you connect to your receivers is
irrelavent. (I have one that generally doesn't connect to a TV, it is
almost exclusively used to tune digial music channels.), another
receiver serves 2 TVs and the tuner card in my PC.

FWIW, Although a DirecTivo has to satellite tuners, is has one one video
decoder, hence one output, so whatever TVs you connect to it, they will
all get the same thing.
