The Truth About TiVo - now only $149
[Author: latest TIVO ad emailed to me. Anyone care to comment?]
A Study in Life B.T. and A.T. A staggering 89% of TiVo subscribers say it's frustrating to watch TV "the old way." Some even go so far as to divide their life as "B.T" (Before TiVo) and "A.T." (After TiVo). Upon further investigation*, we think we figured out why. TiVo subscribers enjoy TV more A.T. (After TiVo). 90% channel surf less. 78% no longer miss portions of TV shows due to interruptions (just pause live TV!). 69% get more out of their cable and satellite services with the TiVo service. 54% watch better quality, more entertaining and more interesting programs. VCRs—Going the way of the dinosaur? 85% no longer use a VCR to record television—probably because 78% find the TiVo service more reliable than a VCR. TiVo is easy to use. 73% find TiVo easier to use than a DVD player; 50% find it easier than a microwave! Buy TiVo Today! Newsweek called it a "lifestyle phenomenon." Miranda on "Sex in the City" gave it "boyfriend" status. But YOU won't believe the life-altering effects of a TiVo® Series2™ DVR until you try it yourself. If you're not convinced it's one of the best purchases you've ever made, we'll give you your money back. Prices start as low as $149**! (Which reminds us... no wonder 87% of subscribers believe TiVo is worth about the same or more than they paid for it!) "TiVo means having my favorite shows at my fingertips, all the time. I can't believe it isn't in everyone's house. To me it's a no-brainer." —Tina B., South Lyon, MI -- "Politics does not make strange bedfellows. Marriage does." -- Groucho Marx |

Here in alt.video.ptv.replaytv,
Ablang spake unto us, saying: [Author: latest TIVO ad emailed to me. Anyone care to comment?] What it says is probably quite true for the TiVo, but the TiVo is not the only product which can provide those particular benefits (or make that kind of positive impact on someone's TV viewing habits). I've been comparing notes with a friend who owns a newer Tivo unit (for reference, I have a ReplayTV 5040 here at home), and while those two are somewhat different in terms of specific features, they each do roughly the same thing in terms of general function. I love my ReplayTV. It's been worth every single penny I paid for it, lifetime registration and all. I know other ReplayTV owners who also love their ReplayTV. The TiVo owners I've met seem to love their TiVos as well. That says something, I think. Either that, or we're all deluded. :-) -- -Rich Steiner --- http://www.visi.com/~rsteiner --- Eden Prairie, MN OS/2 + eCS + Linux + Win95 + DOS + PC/GEOS + Executor = PC Hobbyist Heaven! I do think Replay has an edge in features by having a 30-second skip ahead button rather that the Tivo's fast forward. Tivo has a 30-second skip as well, only takes a few keystrokes to enable. I do think Replay has an edge in features by having a 30-second skip ahead button rather that the Tivo's fast forward. Its a very simple matter to program in a 30 second fast forward on the DirecTivo. |

One type of TiVo DVR is a hard drive TV recorder/DirecTV satellite receiver. It can only record DirecTV. Period. The other type of TiVo DVR handles antenna, cable, and satellite. This (latter) variety can even handle more than one type of channel provider simultaneously, though not all permutations are possible, such as "cable and digital cable." I don't know where you're getting your information, Bill, but I suggest you do a lot more research at tivo.com, tivofaq.com, avsforum.com, etc. before giving more answers. |
