Hughes DVR failure
 

My 4 month old Hughes DVR40 has failed, I suspect a heat related
intermittant. Hughes telephone support maze is anything but helpful, but I
gather the unit is out of warranty. Is there an outfit that will repair
these units, or is it the trash can?
What brand of replacement is recommended?

Brand doesn't really matter for DirecTivos, they are all made on the
same line with the same mainboard, in that regard. All that is different
is the front bezel and remote control.

It may be under warranty if you used a credit card to purchase (check
cashing cards usually don't qualkify). Most credit card companies (VISA
and MasterCard included) will double manufacturers warranties up to a
year. A great way to buy an extended warranty for free.

my hughes tivo just died, called hughes tech support, they are sending a
replacement unit under warranty. purchaced it dec 03.
