basic cable
Can I use my Tivo with basic cable? No cable box. I have a series 1 Sony
that I tried hooking up to straight cable and it wouldn't change channels. I am currently using a Scientific Atlanta digital cable box which works fine. Thanks for any info. |

It sounds like it thinks you have a cable box transmitting on channel 3 over coax, instead of full basic cable directly over coax. Ken |

Can I use my Tivo with basic cable? Yes. In fact, this is better than using a cable box in some ways, because it does not rely on an IR blaster. As Ken mentioned, rerunning guided setup should be all you need... -- Lenroc |

Yes, you can hook up a standalone TiVo to basic (unscrambled analog) cable, but you have to tell it that you've done so. Messages & Setup - System Reset - Repeat Guided Setup. I am currently using a Scientific Atlanta digital cable box which works fine. Thanks for any info. You can tell TiVo that you have "cable with converter box", or that you have "cable without box". If you re-do Guided Setup to select "cable without box", then TiVo will be able to tune in the basic cable channels. But then TiVo won't be able to access the digital channels anymore. -Joe -- I love my TiVo - http://www.inwap.com/u/joe/tivo/ |
