Need help picking a new big screen

My Pioneer SD-P504-K is finally biting the dust. The green gun is all but
gone, (or the driver). I have loved this thing for the last 20 years or so
but I think it may be time to upgrade. I just hate loosing that wood cabinet
though...

I have a couple of questions.

1. Is there anyway to drop in a new video engine and keep the housing? If
so is it practical?
2. If I upgrade, anyone have brand name and models to choose from?
Experience here would be helpful.

The DLP's I have seen have a pixilated look. The LCD's seem to have the
persistence and slow death problems.. so I have read. Is gun technology
badly outdated, or is it a size issue?

Thanks in advance,

Craig
