What would cause this? by
[email protected]
I have a Sony Bravia TV in a corner of my living room. There are archways on
either side of it, so I ran a fifty foot cable for headphones from the headphone
output of the TV, up through the ceiling behind the TV, across my attic about
fifteen feet, and snaked it down through a wall, where it comes...

Newbie questions on using splitters for coax cables... by
Ant
Hello.
Is it true that coax cable splitters, with many ports (e.g., five ports
with one input and four outputs), are not even in each of its port to
TVs? If so, then are they all like this by design? I know they lose
strengths when splitted, but someone told me that each port is not the
same...

ALL CAPS IN CLOSED CAPTIONING? by
Ant
Hello.
My folks recently bought two new Samsung HDTVs (55" and a 20") to
replace their old CRT TVs. I was helping them to set them up.
I noticed closed captionings (CCs) sometimes show all texts in all CAPS
in some over the air (OTA) Los Angeles/L.A. broadcasts from an outdoor
CM 4228HD...

Amplified Splitters: 4-way vs 8-way? by
(PeteCresswell)
I'm thinking about replacing a Radio Shack amplified 4-way
splitter just on GPs.
The thing is quite a few years old, and I'm unable to find the
gremlins that are causing pixellation except that they seem tb
restricted to my media center's tuners and not the
direct-connected TVs.
The Question:

Amplified Splitters vs Pre-Amps? by
(PeteCresswell)
I'm trying to parse this summary from
http://tinyurl.com/c6qgenw
"Antennas Direct recommends using a pre-Amplifier for outdoor
installations or cable runs over 100 ft. A distribution amplifier
should be used to make up for loss due to splitting but is not
recommended to compensate for long cable...

RG6: In-Line Connector Signal Loss by
(PeteCresswell)
New thread for searchability by others who might have the same
question.
I'm going to re-do a rather heinous splitting scheme and am
wondering if there is any profit in buying more cable so the runs
are contiguous instead of joined in-line.
i.e. Is it worth putting in 100 feet of new...

Is 1080p overkill for a 32" bedroom TV? by
Bert[_2_]
Looking for a second TV, to be used almost exclusively for late evening
viewing from bed.
We only have space for a 32" HD set which will be viewed from a distance
of about 12 feet.
With a screen of that size viewed from that distance, would we see any
real difference with 1080i satellite...

HDMI cable would not work on replacement box by
Novel8
I had to get a replacement hd box from TW. When I connected the same hdmi cable that worked on the previous box, would not work on this one. I just can't keep buying these cables not knowing why they are so damn fickle in working . I bought it 4 months ago and it worked just fine with the older...

Cable lost cause of TW updating by
Novel8
Last night we were all prepared to watch a little TV. The screen was blank. In th e past unplugging the the plug would set it up to work again...but not this time. Called TW and they said no outages in my area, but TW is updating some areas and won't have any TV for at least 24 hours. Isn't that...

Monitor prices by
[email protected]
Just wondering about something. I currently have a 24" Dell monitor and I was
toying with the idea of a larger monitor, a 32 inch one. Just idle mind
wandering. But when I started looking around, the prices scared me off. Why is
it that I can find monitors up to around 27 inches for under $300 but...

need HDTV recommendation - please help by
Adam[_5_]
I am looking for a quality HDTV for my "frugal" elderly parent,
who just wants to be able to watch TV for free after buying the TV
(and does not have/want internet/cable).
I am not sure whether the following HDTV would be too much TV and
many of the features (internet, etc.) will not be taken...

OTA: New Antenna? by
(PeteCresswell)
Philadelphia PA (USA) area.
Some months ago we started getting heavy pixellation on channel
12 late at nite - specifically Charlie Rose.
Since then I have seen the same thing intermittently on The
Tonite Show (channel 6).
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not watching anything
live. ...

Cox version of URC-8820 Remote? by
Jim Thompson
I cannot get the _Cox_version_ of the URC-8820 Remote (made by UEI) to
program.
Cox "Support" is inhabited by slugs, and any question to UEI gets
kicked back to "ask Cox" :-(
(The Cox "documentation" is limited to device on/off numbers.)
What I'd like to do is program "Power" to power-up...

Length of HDMI cable between set-top box and TV by
Rebel1
The user manual for one of Vizio's TV says this about the HDMI
connection between and HDTV set-top box and TV:
"To maintain the display quality, use a VIZIO certified HDMI cable that
is 10 meters."
Normally, I would think that means 10 meters or less. However, a friend
recently had a new TV...

Surround sound all the time:
