Proms problem by Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Just to alert people to an unexpected and unfortunate change... A while before the first of this year's Proms the max available audio rate for the BBCs TV iPlayer streams has gone down from 320k aac to 128k aac. Note that the *radio* streams remain available as 320k aac, but not currently the TV...

BBC links abroad by Scott[_4_]
Just a thought - if I send link to a BBC News page to an email address outside the UK, is there any guarantee the recipient will be able to open it? Outside the UK I think you are directed to BBC World News instead.

BBC Polo? by Brian Gaff
BBC need to get more Polo Matches covered I think. This afternoon on BBC Surrey they covered one and it sounded great, lots of injuries lots of people jumping off one pony onto another and plenty of crowd spotting too. -- ----- -- This newsgroup posting comes to you directly from... The...

A fairly typical dream by Brian Gaff
I do think this does prove that what dreams are is a bit of the sensible brain attempting to make sense of memories as they are shuffled about during sleep, It happens all the time but its in that strange odd world where some bits of the brain awake while other sleep that we notice it. It...

Masthead amplifier by Richard Tobin
Can anyone recommend a 4-way masthead amplifier? Or any reason not to get this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Masthead-Amplifier-0-15dB-LTE800-Compliant-Red/dp/B07NJRDL9C/ -- Richard

Freeview retune by sintv[_2_]
After the previous retune a couple of months ago, we now get Yesterday, Dave and mebbe others moving about. What is the point of moving channels to different numbers..just annoys people especially the elderly.

Sunday Politics Look East isn't! by PeterC
On Freesat 954, for the last 2 Sundays, the programme's notes mention the East but the programme has been up North - NW last week and Yorkshire this week. I can't set it to record (used to be able to, along with the news in the evening) as it just sets in about 03:00h for 19/1! This is bad enough...

Various things . by Brian Gaff
1. Does anyone have their Amazon Echo dot or other wifi enabled device near a set top box or tv? I ask as I'm very suspicious that mine is causing the box software to crash more often when its on top of or near it. I can only assume its the radio transmitter inside. 2. Hi does anyone produce a...

Sky Q by Jeff Gaines
Had the Sky Q box (and new LNB) fitted today. Nothing remarkable except the engineer had to drill the wall for a fitting to hold his ladder in place before he could go up it. Is this the new norm? -- Jeff Gaines Wiltshire UK All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my hand.

"Murdoch Mysteries": Violent end of series? by Maurice[_3_]
We have been following the recent series of Murdoch Mysteries, but what we thought was the end of the series (12?) that we asked the Humax to record seemed to be somewhat unfinal (or was it?). In this episode Murdoch is on the run (having been framed with a body found in his bed!), his...

700MHz clearance progress and details by Jim Lesurf[_2_]
I've been 'otherwise occupied' for some months so not reading usenet. However as a result of discussions elsewhere I realised I'm out of touch with the progress/state/etc of the way the 700 MHz band is being cleared and people needing to retune or get new filters. Can someone point me at...

Aerial operation by [email protected]
I am aware of the theory of aerial dimensions - wavelength, speed of light, and such, but what I am having real trouble visualising is the actual physical function of these things. Can anyone help? Tuned radio waves are photons of a particular frequency, and they are produced by an alternating...

Who makes naff connection cables? by Brian Gaff
I was trying to find a scart lead and an old fashioned aerial patch lead in my box of stuff that you should never throw away as you might need it one day, the other day. Thus far I have an aerial lead that only works on all channels if you grip it in your hand about a third of the way along. its...

Is SKY Q available on broadband yet. by Bill Ward[_2_]
From 2019 Sky will also be launching a version of Sky Q that works over broadband internet only. A Sky Q app will be launched that will be available on smart TVs, third-party set-top-boxes - likely Roku, considering Sky has a part-share in the company - and portable devices. Sky claims it will...

They've done it again - not updated the EPG by Dickie mint[_2_]
They really are running the asylum! Following the beeb taking over EPG compilation and the resultant cockup, programme timing changes tonight on BBC2 haven't been changed in the EPG. Of course it could be my Humax? Gardeners' World was at 8.30 pm Looming Tower was at 9.30pm. Tonight

Power Cut by pinnerite
Yesterday we awoke to three problems. My wife had no email access. This was pinned down to a power cut (Pinner area) at sometime in the night. That meant the all-singing and dancing Netgear R7000 Nighthawk Dual-Band AC 1900 Wi-Fi router had been knocked out. As usual although the power had...

Al-Jazeera HD by pinnerite
My aerial faces Crystal Palace. Recently, we were advised to retune to channel 235 on 31 May. Since then Al-Jazeera is certainly there but in SD. The original HD channel on 108 is dead as a dodo. Does anybody know if AJ HD will pop up somewhere else? --
