Dish Heaters by Alan Tignanelli
Anyone have any experience with them? I have a DTV HD dish, and it's mounted on the up-roof side of the chimney, so I can't reach it to clean it in the winter if it gets covered (we usually get one or two ice or snow storms that cover the dish - at least the old smaller dish - enough to disrupt...

DirecTV "free" "upgrade" experience by Dan Lanciani
I got a call from DirecTV saying they needed to "upgrade" my HD receiver or I'd lose channels, and there was a big rush because they had to do mumble thousands in the next month, and it's all free for me and a great deal. Now, I don't actually receive any HD content from DirecTV: I got the...

What's Fortec Star satellite receiver by Everett M. Greene
I recently obtained a Fortec Star DVB-786NA digital satellite receiver from my late inlaws. It's described in the manual as a universal receiver but nothing is said about what gets received, frequency bands, etc. Anybody ever heard of one and know what it receives?

Anyone else hack the Dish Network ethernet interface yet? by D. Stussy
Newer receivers have an ethernet port so that "on demand" programming can be sucked over broadband connections instead of the slower phone line. Anyone mess with this yet? I'm curious because it would be nice to offload and save recordings from the DVR, or even upload some into it - or play DVDs...

"Please insert the proper Access Card" by Patty Winter
We had a brownout in my area last night, and my older DirecTV receiver (a Sony SAT B-2) appears to be the worse for it. It's telling me, "You have inserted the wrong card. Please insert the proper Access Card." I removed and reinserted the card a couple of times, but there's been no...
