APROPOS OF NOTHING by Bill Wright[_3_]
APROPOS OF NOTHING It’s seven years since I installed an aerial or a dish. But several times a week I have long, detailed, involved dreams about work. Normally these are set in the UHF analogue age; sometimes they are set in the satellite analogue age, and occasionally, just occasionally,...

I have a poor signal for TV as having a dmlog aerial mounted to chimney stack approximately 10 meters above ground level receiving group A transmission signal, and thought is it possible to use 2 grouped aerials one A other B group pointing at the correct grouped transmission towers which are at 90...

ROT (for uk.tech.digital-tv) - Circular Saws, Blade Sizes by Java Jive[_3_]
I've just decided that I need a circular saw to help me complete the mountain of DIY tasks that I've recently and unexpectedly come to face, so, having a gratuity post-cock-up voucher at B&Q for £50 I started looking there. Naturally I read the reviews of the saws that looked promising, one...

Next steps for sorting out my DAB aerial..... by [email protected]
In a previous post, I reported that the boom arm of the DAB aerial broke into two at where the folded dipole is. It's a triax 13 element VHF aerial covering Ch 5 to Ch 13 as I found this performed better at the time (10 years ago at least) than a standard aerial tuned for DAB which was then Ch 11B...

I player/sounds by Brian Gaff
I was listening to bbc radio Surrey from last night. David Miller, and for much of the program there were drop outs in the sound even though it was downloaded, ie not stream related. Interestingly, although the show is made in Guildford the feed they chose to record was from bbc Sussex. ...

Repoposing Sky dishes? by Brian Gaff
? Somebody asked me if it might be possible to use to old sky dishes to shove wifi signals over the road. I would not actually know, but I'd imagine the problem part would be to have a recieve and transmit aerial in the focal point and with the same polarisation myself. Brian -- ----- --

DAB shambles by Techmoan by fred[_4_]
I found the following web sites which appear to be kept up to date and list all DAB stations AFAIK. http://www.wohnort.org/DAB/uknat.html http://www.wohnort.org/DAB/ukloc.html My biggest DAB complaint is that BBC World Service is lacking in quality (too low bit-rate ???). It sounds a bit like...

Satellite reception by Andy Burns[_12_]
I have an additional LNB for 19.2°E on my ~80cm dish, mainly for German RTL (I'm not going to pay £32/month to sleep through F1 races that I'm less and less interested in). A couple of days ago, I fired up the PC with tuner card to check it was still working, and what was in the EPG, reception...

Toshiba TV Update by Davey
If I invoke the Manual Software Upgrade on my Toshiba TV set, I see a screen that says "Searching..." for a very long time, with the dots cycling through 1, 2 and 3 of them. The manual gives no indication of how long this should last, it just says to "follow the onscreen instructions", of which I...

TOSHIBA by MR[_4_]
Recent posts about Toshiba tellies left me wondering if the company just want to build trains these days, their tellies are very poor in comparison with the usual Korean mega-manufacturers in Currys' showrooms. They seem to be using panels from the dim (literally) and distant past (3 years' ago in...

Oh dear..... High winds...... by [email protected]
I looked out the kitchen french door window to find that part of my 13 element aerial is on the patio.... Today hum? by Andy Burns[_12_]
Anyone else hearing a *very* quiet background hum in some segments of the Today programme? It's audible on DAB and Sounds and throbs at about 0.3Hz e.g. starts when Tom Stoppard's mic is faded up at 08:35 during the André Previn segment, annoying once you notice it ...
