OT (possibly) : High Frequency Trading across the Atlantic by Chris Youlden[_7_]
There have been a couple of discussions on this NG about microwave links between broadcast transmitter sites and other existing sites being established across the south of England to enable high frequency trading between financial centres. It is claimed that shaving fractions of a second off...

What is Freeview? by David[_20_]
Following on from someone ranting on uk.legal.moderated (who I note hasn't come over here to establish any facts, despite good advice to do so). I thought that Freeview was basically a program listing format adopted by a consortium so TVs etc. could display program guides, schedule recordings...

Are AT800 filters a channel stop filter or a band-stop filter? by Stephen[_10_]
Without getting my Anritsu spectrum analyser out, does anyone know if the AT800 filters just attenuate a few MHz above CH 59 or CH 60 or do they attenuate all channels from Chs 59/60 all the way up to ch 68? The reason I ask is I have 10 UHF modulators for my CCTV cameras and I am getting what...

Long arrays by Brian Gaff
I was thinking the other day when I used to make my own Yagis, I reckoned that about 8 elements was really the most gain you could get that was worth having as after that at uhf things got so long as to be stupid and indeed although you could get better directivity, the gain increase was...

Batery Technical Question by Jeff Gaines
I use a laptop most of the time and the battery is starting to run down quicker and quicker. I have a theory (but not enough technical expertise to know if it is valid) that the quicker a battery charges the quicker it runs down. It's based purely on the battery taking several hours to charge...

Red Button Prblem by Alaric[_2_]
Recently I have encountered a problem on my LG TV in that when I use the red button "Please wait" appears in the top right hand corner of the screen but nothing appears subsequently. If I try again on another BBC Channel the same thing may happen. Indeed I have tried more channels before I get...

Levels man, the levels! by Brian Gaff
I think not only have standards been lost its as if nobody cares a **** about them. Last night Quest was almost inaudible till the adverts came on, Most of the other channels have huge variations in level and or compression and on some of the 5 channels some odd type of glitching as if the...

Just recently.. by Brian Gaff
I've had to reset a box a few times due to drop outs in the sound, but I could not tell about the picture. Almost always the issue then goes away until another day. It has coincidentally only started to happen since the recent channel changes. Yes this is the old Goodman's box again which has...

The Oxford Tx frequency changes are imminent...... by Stephen[_10_]
No announcements on any of my freeview TVs.... I await the changes with some trepidation as I currently combine signals from 4 aerials pointed at Waltham, Sutton Coldfield, Oxford and Sandy Heath. Now on My Sutton Coldfield Aerial, I could pick up Sandy Heath and Oxford signals off-beam via its...

Freeview question by Mr Pounder Esquire
Blaupunkt TV. I have lost the 7 Day TV Guide. All that appears is the channel listings with no info. The channel listings work. I have rebooted several times and re-tuned several times. Also checked the aerial plug. I've also done the first time installation thing. Other telly shows the 7 Day TV...

Tacolneston tonight by Davey
Sometime after midnight, all BBC channels, radio and TV, plus a few others such as Dave, went off air. I can't find any mention of changes due, they were supposed to have been done on Feb. 7. Presumably one whole MUX, or more, is down, BBC A at a minimum. I can get the blasted gambling, of...

Sandy Heath & Dallington Park......... by Stephen[_10_]
Dallington park is switching from ch 50, 55 and 59 to ch 23, 26 & 30 on 6th June as expected along with a power increase from 40 W to 50 W. That will annoy a lot of people who are still using group C/D aerials.... However, Sandy Heath's changes have been postponed from 6th June to the 17th...

USB Hard drive for recording by AnthonyL
My new telly, LG49uj670v, allows recording to a USB stick, but if I want pause, catch-up facilities I need a USB drive, apparently a minimum of 40Gb but I'm thinking of bigger than that anyway. I'd prefer a drive that is powered by the TV's USB port just for simplicity. Any recommendations? --

Panasonic - BBC iPlayer turns off power by Geoff Pearson
I bought a Panasonic TX40EX700B from John Lewis a couple of months ago - quite pleased with it. It is connected to the router by Ethernet and the Netflix speed tester reports a download speed of over 60Mbs - we have a good connection and that is the speed reported by my PC too. Netflix works...

question about Multiswitches by Stephen[_10_]
If one splits a satellite signal passively to 16 outputs, I make that a reduction of 12dB from the input signal level to one of the output levels assuming the splitting is 100% efficient. Its probably nearer to 16dB once the inductive and resistive network losses are included. Now imagine a 16...
